THE FRONTIERS ENGINE — LICENSE SUMMARY
======================================

This is a plain-language summary for convenience. It is NOT the license
and does not modify it. Where this summary and the ORC License disagree,
the ORC License controls.

WHAT YOU MAY DO
---------------

Build and publish games, supplements, modules, and tools using the
    Frontiers rules.

Sell what you make. No royalties, no revenue share, no permission
    needed.

Modify any rule, including anything you disagree with.

Build on any Starter Set or Module published on frontiersengine.dev.
These are Licensed Material in full, not settings held back for
    official use.

State that your work is powered by or compatible with Frontiers.

WHAT YOU MUST DO
----------------

Include the four required ORC notices in your published work. See
template-attribution.txt in this kit. A "Powered by" line on its own
    does NOT satisfy the license.

Credit every source you used, including Starter Sets and Modules, and
name their creators. A community Module's author must appear in your
notice even if you changed how their rules work.

Name the exact version of Frontiers you built against.

Offer your own adapted rules content onward under the ORC License, so
the next designer has the same freedom you had.

WHAT IS LICENSED
----------------

Under the ORC License, Licensed Material covers the expressions
reasonably necessary to convey the functional ideas and methods of
operation of a game. For Frontiers that is essentially the whole engine:

The resolution machinery — the Resolution Die, the Gradient Die,
    Thresholds, Favor and Disfavor.

Attributes, Derivatives, and everything calculated from them.

The modes of play, the action economy, and every rule governing them.

Health, pressure, and exertion — the Wound, Fatigue, and Energy
    economies.

Skills, Abilities, Equipment, Characters, and Advancement.

Every table, formula, procedure, and worked example.

The terminology needed to use the rules, including the names of
    Attributes, resources, and mechanics.

    The mechanical glyphs — ❖ ✩ ◉ ◬ ✚ ⊗ ⊖ ϟ ⛊ ⛉ ⇉ ➤ ✦ ✧ ✽ ⌗ — which are
part of the mechanical vocabulary, not the branding.

This is Licensed Material by operation of the ORC License itself. No
separate designation is required, and it cannot be withdrawn.

WHAT IS RESERVED
----------------

The rules are free to use. The brand is not. Reserved Material is:

The names Frontiers, Frontiers Engine, and Frontiers Tabletop Engine
    as titles and marks.

The Frontiers logo, wordmark, brand marks, and visual branding,
    including the Starter Set lockups.

Trade dress: the layout, typography, and visual presentation of
    official publications and of frontiersengine.dev.

All artwork published by or on behalf of Frontiers.

Mechanical terminology is NOT reserved. Words such as Vigor, Deft,
Gradient Die, Demand, and Capacity are Licensed Material and are yours to
use. Neither are the glyphs.

Reserving this material does not restrict your use of the rules. You can
publish a complete commercial game on Frontiers without touching any of
it.

WHAT YOU MAY NOT DO
-------------------

Present your project as official, endorsed, sponsored by, or
    affiliated with Frontiers.

Present a fork as the continuation of Frontiers.

Use Frontiers as the leading element of a product title in a way that
suggests it is the engine itself.

    Use branding assets without permission.

    Misrepresent compatibility or supported versions.

COMPATIBILITY WORDING
---------------------

In addition to the required notices, you may describe your work as:

    Powered by the Frontiers Engine
    Compatible with the Frontiers Engine

Nothing in the ORC License permits you to assert that your work is
connected with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Frontiers.

WHAT THE LICENSE DOES NOT COVER
-------------------------------

The ORC License governs copyright and similar rights only. It expressly
does not grant trademark or patent rights.

Use of the Frontiers name and branding is governed separately, by the
Trademark & Usage Policy:

    https://frontiersengine.dev/license/usage-policy/

IRREVOCABILITY AND VERSIONS
---------------------------

Frontiers is published in versions, and each release stays available so
that work built on an earlier version stays usable.

Under the ORC License, an offer to license published Licensed Material is
irrevocable. Frontiers cannot withdraw, revoke, or add conditions to
material already published under it, for any existing or future licensee.
Later releases may designate additional material; nothing already granted
can be taken back.

Irrevocability guarantees the material stays available. It does not by
itself guarantee the vocabulary stays put. Frontiers commits to that
separately: within a version line, no mechanical term is renamed and no
core formula changes, so everything published as 1.x shares 1.0's terms
and rules.

ASSETS IN THIS KIT
------------------

Logos and marks are provided for press, review, and editorial coverage of
Frontiers. Do not alter them, and do not use them in a way suggesting
Frontiers produced or endorses your product. See brand-guide.txt.

WANT TO USE SOMETHING RESERVED?
-------------------------------

Ask. The answer is usually yes.

    contact@jaykepaver.me

Say what you want to use and how. Frontiers exists to be built on, and
the reservations are about keeping official and community work
distinguishable, not about keeping anyone out.

NOT LEGAL ADVICE
----------------

This summary explains how Frontiers applies the ORC License. It is not
legal advice. The ORC License is the controlling document. If you are
publishing commercially, consult a qualified attorney.
